"What started as a two-week contract to move desks has become a 22-year journey of continuous growth and impact. When I joined SAP in 2003 straight from working in an electrical retail store, I never imagined I'd still be here more than two decades later, managing IT operations across 42 locations in EMEA with a team of 91 engineers.
My role centers on ensuring every SAP employee has the technology they need from day one. My team handles everything from global onboarding – setting up laptops, phones, and office applications for new hires – to maintaining the daily IT infrastructure that keeps our company running.
When COVID hit, our leader Christian's philosophy of 'be ready for the world of tomorrow' proved prescient. We sent everyone home overnight because our infrastructure was already there. That's when I began leading the global onboarding initiative, creating entirely new remote processes very quickly.”
“My journey at SAP has been driven by curiosity and a passion for solving problems. I started moving PCs and phones, became a systems administrator, then coordinated regional IT topics, and eventually became IT lead for Ireland before taking on my current EMEA role.
What's remarkable about SAP is how they've supported my growth beyond just technical skills. “What I love most about working at SAP is the genuine support and flexibility the company provides. I have friends at other tech companies who get free beer and pizza, but when I tell them about how SAP supports employees through personal challenges, they're shocked. You don't get that level of human care anywhere else.
This support extends beyond work. As a volunteer with the Irish Coast Guard for ten years, I respond to cliff rescues and sea emergencies – sometimes 120 calls a year. SAP's flexible working arrangements allow me to drop everything when someone needs help, which is essential for emergency response work.
I'm also proud of participating in SAP's community initiatives, like traveling to Uganda to build a solar-powered computer room for an orphanage school. After 22 years, I still wake up excited about what's next."
