Exploring enterprise problems that software hasn’t fully solved yet.
Research at SAP doesn't operate in isolation. Here's where the key working relationships are:
Applied research outputs feed directly into product development. You work with Product and Engineering teams to bridge the gap between a working prototype and a shippable feature, ensuring that what research proves possible can actually be built into SAP's products.
User research findings inform design decisions at every stage. Researchers and designers plan studies together, interpret behavioral patterns, and test whether proposed solutions address the problems that enterprise users actually face in their day-to-day work.
User and field research requires access to the people who use SAP software inside real organizations. Consulting and Customer Success teams are the bridge to that access, and the insights they bring from the field help research teams focus on problems that genuinely need solving.
The main areas are applied and fundamental research focused on new technical capabilities, AI and machine learning research, user and UX research, data science research, and social science research focused on enterprise work and organizational behavior. Some roles sit firmly within one discipline; others are interdisciplinary. The job description will tell you where a specific role sits.
