From psychologist in Colombia to talent strategist in Canada, Maria rebuilt her career from scratch in a new country. Born without her left arm, she's now opening doors at SAP that others tried to close—for herself and everyone who's been told they're different.
One month can change everything. Luca joined SAP for a temporary Social Sabbatical project and never left. Now the multilingual intern is helping solve Brazil's tech talent gap by bringing SAP learning tools into classrooms across Latin America.
Grace joined SAP Labs Vietnam with two degrees and years of experience mentoring students. Today, she’s building solutions that help companies reduce their environmental impact, and astutely developing her career acumen.

Trusting change
“When COVID hit in March 2020, my world shifted overnight. The day my twins were born was the same day the pandemic was declared. I had just finished my first year in real estate but suddenly meeting strangers and potentially bringing something home to my newborn family became terrifying.
During that time, I watched my husband's SAP experience unfold – People Days, Mental Health Awareness events, Pride@SAP calls, virtual Out & Equal conferences. I began to think, "If I go back to SAP, I really want to take an active role in Pride." I could see that SAP genuinely cared about its people in ways I hadn't experienced elsewhere.
It took a year of persistent applications and LinkedIn networking to get back in. I've worked for companies that expected you to want to be at the office more than with your family. When I realized SAP was the company I had been searching for all along, that was my turning point.”

"Embrace change and curiosity. Curiosity can help one learn new skills that, most often than not, help one adapt to change, which then leads to growth."

Transferring skills from the unexpected
“My journey to SAP wasn't linear. After eight years at a consulting company later acquired by SAP, I left to explore the entrepreneurial world of real estate.
In retrospect, every role taught me something valuable. My theater background gave me executive presence for client presentations. Teaching myself SQL and becoming an Excel expert prepared me for business operations challenges. Even real estate connected to my SAP work – both involve guiding people through complex processes and building trust during major decisions.
When I returned as a Customer Success Manager, all these threads came together. I listen to customers constantly, understanding their pain points and identifying growth opportunities with our CX AI toolkit and other solutions. It's that same consultative approach developed over many years of diverse roles and experiences.”

Creating community and impact
“Shortly after rejoining SAP, I raised my hand for the budget and finance role in Pride@SAP, the company’s Employee Network Group for LGBTQIA+ employees and allies. There were manual, Excel-heavy processes that screamed for automation. Working with our team, I created automated systems that we shared with other Employee Network Groups.
But I had bigger ambitions. Too many people saw Pride@SAP as just a social club. I wanted to elevate our perception as an organization driving real business impact. We've achieved transgender guidelines, gender-neutral bathrooms in multiple locations, and health benefits improvements – tangible changes making SAP more inclusive.
Leading Pride has been my leadership laboratory. I've discovered I'm a collaborative leader who prefers bringing people together rather than being prescriptive. My VP Kristen is a great example of someone who leads while staying true to their values – she's always supported my work with Pride.”
Finding balance and purpose
“My weekends are filled with five-year-old twin activities: birthday parties, swimming lessons, gymnastics. This requires a workplace that understands life doesn't pause for quarterly reports.
I've worked for companies where I was told, ‘You're here more than with your family, you should want to be here more.; At SAP, I've found something different. The company genuinely supports the whole person, not just the employee badge number.
What I've discovered is that working for a company that truly cares about its employees means I can be present for both professional aspirations and family priorities. I can advance my career, lead meaningful change through Pride@SAP, deliver value to customers, and still make it to every gymnastics class that matters to my kids. It's a place where I can bring my authentic self and build something meaningful – both for our customers and our community.”
